Scripture: Philippians 3:4b-14      John 12:1-8

The stench of Lazarus in the tomb shifts to the fragrance of the love of Jesus and for Jesus in the supper at Bethany. The stench of the mounting betrayal in Judas is set against the sweet smell of love for the poor and the powerless which defines the energy of the new community in Jesus. With symbols and smells, this supper anticipates the Last Supper, Jesus' death and resurrection.
