November 22, 2009

The names of the Sundays are taken from

Scripture: Revelation 1:4-8   John 18:33-37

This final Sunday of the church year has us look at two figures representing Kingdoms. On the left is Pilate—lackey representing the Emperor of Rome, the most powerful kingdom of earth at that time. On the right is Jesus, sovereign of a kingdom not of this world, which renounces the power of force and violence as methods to secure its defense against enemies. We exploring the meaning of the meek in the Beatitudes as those who already possess the entire earth.
