Defenses Thrown Away The intense joy of the blind Bartimaeus is contrasted with the heavy, dull arguments along the road which had previously taken place. This joyful man having received his sight, becomes the symbol of how to follow Jesus down the road, about to enter into Jerusalem in triumph. Nick imagines that the newly sighted person followed Jesus on the donkey, not as the others who were on the sidelines shouting "Hosanna." Being in the sidelines makes us vulnerable to say "Crucify Him" later.
