Home Free at the Hem

Pastor Nick Connolly
Grace United Methodist Church

The Fifth of Thirteen Sundays in Pentecost – June 28, 2009
Scripture: Lamentations 3:23-33; Psalm 30: Mark 5:21-43

The names of the Sundays are taken from
The Bible Through the Seasons: A Three-Year Journey with the Bible.

Along with just about every child, one of the games we played with my brothers and cousins in summers at the Jersey Shore was "Hide and Seek." As soon as the moment came for running home before being tagged, the only focus was on the tree or home base.

The lady with the hemorrhage must have felt something similar as she said to herself, "All I need to do is to get to Jesus' cloak and I'll be healed; I'll be home free at the hem."

The faith of this woman Jesus uplifts for us. The mutual interplay of Jesus' power and the woman's faith creates a healing cycle for us to ponder.
